Darren -- you will be truly missed. I received an email forward at work today from Mr. B about info on an old HS friend...I immediately thought who of the old nhs crew did something wonderful, perhaps is coming to Seattle, etc...I thought about you, Steve, the Erics, Bob, Charlie, Mark and was shocked to learn that you had recently passed away. I am still in disbelief. While we all managed to stay in touch during college, it seems we lost touch shortly thereafter. Its been 20 years since I last saw you, but remember you, your sense of humor and fun personality like it was yesterday...and you are part of quite a few of the stories I tell my kids about high school. You touched all of our lives in such a positive way. I was cleaning out my den the other day and found the Noblesse Oblige paperweight from Mr. B and wondered what I should do with it...I will definitely keep it and remember how you through all of your mischief and humor still managed to personify everything it stands for (while I seemed to have only mastered the mischief and humor part). I will never forget the times we all shared in high school...thanks man, for being my friend, for being such a great example for us all, for "competing" with us, and having such a positive impact on all of our lives. You will be forever missed.

I feel extremely blessed to have gotten to know Darren through our children. Darren was a wonderful person who not only touched my life, but my kids as well. He will truly be missed.....

Darren: Since I know for a fact that all posthumous blogs are posted in heaven, I want to say it was a real pleasure being your friend in high school. It was another lifetime, but my memories are colorful and will surely be intense next time I dig out my yearbook. Thanks for bringing a healthy competition of academics and humor, often challenging Mark, Bob & I on both levels on the same day. The ‘Brinson Foursome’, as we labeled ourselves (or maybe it was a name given to us ungenerously by our teachers?), was a well-oiled machine. You were without doubt at the helm of our zany antics and M*A*S*H-style mockery of the typical high school educational system -- where we simultaneously thrived as leaders and pushed the administration’s collective patience. The good teachers understood and shared a laugh in confidence, while the not-so-good ones could only shake their heads and give us ‘A’s despite our behavior. (Nicky, I’m sorry we never met, but you were right when commenting that the photo of Darren lying beside the seals in Ecuador sums it all up.) I recall like it was yest that I’d be juggling a stack of books home every night, while you were heading home with a paperback novel you were reading for fun because you made it a point to do all your homework during homeroom, lunch and any other spare moments. You were a natural leader among leaders, and if your banjo was anything like your soccer skills, well, then I’m sure you played that banjo like a fiddle. I’m glad you contacted me before you went on your world trip to discuss our family’s similar experience, because that was to be our first communication in almost 20 yrs and our last. I will miss your face at our high school and college reunions, but you will always live in full color in my stories. Goodbye old friend.

This was such a shock to learn about Darren. Thank you for sharing his life and spirit. I knew Darren when I was in high school. I admired him and his three closest friends as funny, intelligent, nice guys. I am proud to say I knew them. Like a handprint on my heart, Darren will always be a joyful memory. God bless your time with him, your memories and a wonderful future for your girls. I too have been married 20 years and we have two beautiful girls - Adrienne 17 and Kelsey 15. I so enjoyed following the travels of your family. I know that I'd emailed Darren a few times to tell him how much fun my grandson( who is close to Dominique's age) and I were having talking about his cousins. Although we grew up many states apart, there was always a family bond.We were so saddened to hear of Darren's death. I only wish that we could have all been together again at the camp in Maine. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers... Debbie (Rousseau)
